Greece, September 2015
In cooperation with our partner organisation "Refugee Solidarity Movement Thessaloniki", we provided some services to refugees in transit. These people from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries were on a strenuous and often dangerous journey. Most of them travelled by boat from Turkey to Greek islands. From there they were ferried to Piraeus. Every day hundreds passed by the bus station Makedonia in Thessaloniki. From there they drove on to the Macedonian border, where the weather was wet and cold. They needed weeks or even months to cover a distance that can be comfortably covered by plane in four hours. StrickWärme financed a large purchase of food and hygiene articles and distributed some knitting dolls, which were sent to us by helpful knitters.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank all who made this relief action possible! Not only were we able to temporarily satisfy a few basic needs, but we were also able to put a smile on the faces of some of the refugee children.
